WSFC in the RCL

WestSound-logoDear WestSound FC Families!

It is with great enthusiasm that I'm writing you all about the new, elite Regional Club League (RCL) of which WestSound FC is a founding member. You probably received a copy of the attached press release yesterday, but I wanted to take this opportunity to provide some additional information to you.

Essentially, this league and the Regional Club Program have been developed as the next generation of the Player Development League (PDL). The RCL will now be run directly under the structure of our state organization, WSYSA, rather than though our local District 4. This should give us access to more resources and also a closer working relationship with the state and our local associations. WestSound FC will be the club representing our region, including KPYSA and the Kitsap & Olympic Peninsulas.

With regards to the actual league play, teams will likely notice little difference from last year. We anticipate that brackets for the upcoming season will be based on last year's outcomes. There is talk that the brackets may increase from eight teams to eleven teams, allowing for a ten game season, but that is still yet to be determined.

For the most part, the clubs participating in the RCL will be the same as those that played in the PDL. The one notable exception is the situation surrounding Emerald City FC which is essentially being replaced by the new Seattle United. As you may or may not be aware, through a series of confusing, frustrating and emotional issues, Emerald City essentially lost its charter to be a premier club for the Seattle Youth Soccer Assoc (SYSA) as the SYSA was forming its new Seattle United club.

Here is a link to an excellent discussion about the transition to the RCL:

Thank you all for all of your hard work, support, and patience. This RCL program is still an evolving concept, and many of the league details, plus also the rights and responsibilites of clubs are still beng hammered out. Please feel free to contact me or any of the board members if you have any questions or concerns.
