What is the difference between Premier, Select, and Recreational soccer?
Premier Teams, like WestSound FC, hold tryouts and play in the most competitive leagues throughout the state and may even travel out of state. WestSound FC hires the highest qualified coaches possible. Play multiple seasons as well as play in the State tournaments and if they qualify will move on to Regionals and even Nationals. Our teams are made up of players from Port Angeles to Gig Harbor as well Kitsap County and Bainbridge Island.

Recreational teams are randomly selected from players in their local neighborhoods and there are no tryouts. Teams are coached by volunteers/parents and play in the local area in a short 10 game season.  They also normally play in the Presidents Cup at the end of year. Recreational Clubs have "Select" teams which are formed via tryouts and are a bit more competitive than recreational. These teams may still be coached by volunteers/parents, play in local tournaments, and also have a 10 game season. These teams usually play in the Commissioner’s Cup.

What age should I start with WSFC?
It really depends on the development of each player but you should attend a tryout at early as possible. Players can begin training with WSFC as early as 7 or 8 in our Academy and player pools. Team Dynamics vary year to year and player placement will be under the discretion of our Director of Coaching. For the most part, the earlier the better, remember, many players across the country are starting this young. Should you want to compete for High School Varsity and college spots, start now.

How are teams chosen? How many are there per age group?
Tryouts are conducted at each age group. The goal is to develop two teams. One team is usually the A(Red) team while there is a B(Black) team which also benefits from the highly qualified coaching staff. Many B team players work hard and challenge for a spot on the A team. Players can move between teams thruout the season based on the rate they develop their abilities.Team Dynamics vary year to year and team formation will be under the discretion of our Director of Coaching.

How long is the season?
Tryouts are in Spring and teams play summer tournaments with a fall and/or Spring Season.

Does WestSound play tournaments? Where?
Most teams play in the elite tournaments thru out Western Washington but some may choose to travel to other states like Oregon, Idaho, and even California. Our State Champions have traveled to Regional tournaments  held in Colorado and Hawaii.

Can I play other sports or participate in other activities?
Of course, many of our athletes participate in other sports as well as extracurricular activities in addition to playing soccer.

Does Playing for Westsound FC improve chances to make a High School Team?
High schools hold tryouts by their own coaching staff; however WestSound FC has a continued reputation for the highest trained soccer players in the area. Chances are better if you have played for WestSound FC. Many WestSound FC players have played Varsity Soccer as early as 9th grade. Many of our players make the all league teams.
